Summer is here and there’s lots to celebrate! Enjoy reuniting with friends and family you haven’t seen recently (thanks, COVID!), celebrating graduations, birthdays and other special occasions. With that said, ask yourself, is your home ready to entertain again?! Dust off those speakers (because we all know that good music sets the tone of the party!), gather your party decorations, plan the menu and follow these tips on the ways to entertain in style:
Various Gathering Spaces – Think about the type of party you’re hosting and who will be attending it. If there will be a variety of ages/interests, it’s a smart idea to plan on different gathering spaces for your guests. For instance, some guests will want to be near the television to catch parts of the big game while kids may want to have a set play or hang-out space and so forth. Just remember that not everyone attending your party will want to be doing the same thing at the same time. This means many parts of your home may be used – so clean and prepare it well!
Consider Traffic Flow – Whether your party is inside or outside, it’s important to think about how your guests will move throughout the space. Consider where people will congregate the most (the kitchen, living room, deck, restroom, etc.) and arrange your furniture accordingly. Perhaps you should rearrange some living room furniture to widen walkways and offer more conversational seating. Hosting a party is a great time to declutter to ensure your guests are comfortable and can move about your space easily.
Good Lighting – We’re not saying to go out and buy all new light fixtures just for one shin-dig. But perhaps consider hanging up some outdoor globe string lights on your deck, lining your walkway with hanging lanterns, turning on your pool lights and lighting up your firepit while entertaining outside. By simply turning on your outdoor lights, utilizing a variety of lights inside (i.e., recessed lighting, lamps, candles, etc.) and lighting your fireplace (depending on the season of course), your home will become all the more inviting for your guests.
Home Bar – Where is it that most people flock to during a party? That’s right, the kitchen (or wherever the food is). The second most popular spot is wherever the alcohol is located. Whether you have a built-in wet bar in your basement or on your deck, or even a stylish portable bar cart, use that space to give your guests a more casual place to sip on bubbly, or their favorite cocktail, and chit chat.
Guest Bathrooms that WOW – A powder room is a great place to be more bold, luxurious and playful in style. Consider sprucing up your guest bathroom with a fresh coat of paint, new décor, pops of color with hand towels/rugs and perhaps even some wallpaper or other accent wall materials. Make a memorable impact on your guests in the smallest room of your house by choosing your favorite scented soaps and candles, some fresh flowers and a variety of textures and patterns.
